"...to my mind, a perfect podcast." --Mary Roach

"This podcast is fantastic, it's about the wonderful world of books, curiosity & subsequent self-betterment."
-- Nick Offerman
Welcome to In Walks a Woman, the podcast where we go down well-worn historical and literary pathways with new questions about the female experience and how the stories of our past and in our fiction frame women's life today.
In this 1528 paiting by Lucas Cranach, does Adam look a little clueless?
Maybe it's because he was?
Who was brave enough to seek knowledge?
Who was willing to explore the unknown?
Who was willing to grow up and leave childhood behind?
Eve. That's who.

"In Walks a Woman is, to my mind, a perfect podcast. The conversation is informed and thoughtful, but also spontaneous, wide-ranging, and hilarious. This kind of magic only happens when hosts have not only done their homework but are comfortable setting it aside
and following the fun where it takes them.
Why can't they all be like this!?"

The short answer is...all by ourselves. Sonja edits; Vanessa writes show notes. We record in the beautiful podcast studio of the Lawrence Kansas Public Library. In 2025 we dropped over 50 episodes...whew!
This is our SECOND year! Thank you to all our followers and our Patreon sponsors. As full-time teachers doing this in our free time, we appreciate all the support.

The pod is the natural evolution of a 15-year-long conversation between Sonja and Vanessa about history, literature, pop culture, and feminism. We cancel nothing, but we DO ask questions about everything.

When not in the classroom, Sonja enjoys playing in the dirt (sometimes growing vegetables), cooking, reading, and podcasting with Vanessa. Sonja and her husband Eric have two grown kids, and a diabolical tuxedo cat named Lina.

Vanessa has taught for over 25 years, a patchwork of college/high school/middle school. Along the way she's has raised a daughter and a son and adopted a cat or two. Vanessa adores literature and history--especially where they intersect.
Contact us through the website, Instagram, or FB to let us know books or time periods you'd like us to cover. Right now, we are planning for Season 4, Haunted Places, and we have already added a listener-requested episode to our line up.
Recorded in the Visual and Sound Studio of the Lawrence Public Library, in beautiful, historical, and always quirky Lawrence, Kansas.
NEW EPISODES Drop EVERY Friday @ 5 AM CST USA.
